Origin and characteristics

It’s uncertain when or how the first hybrid dog breed named the Springador appeared. It is generally agreed though that the earliest of these crossbred dogs was likely created purely by accident.

Today, the Springador hybrid dog breed is an officially recognized crossbreed dog in the UK.

These dogs were born and bred to work tirelessly. If they don’t have a job to do, they are smart and driven enough to make up their own, so it is recommended to set up a daily schedule for them so that they can maintain their high energy levels. They enjoy long walks, agility and obedience training, running, hunting and games where they can release their energy.

Coat, Shedding, Grooming

As with any other breed, Springadors need to be groomed on a regular basis to make sure their coats and skin are kept in top condition.

A Springador’s coat can vary depending on whether they have got more Labrador genes or have inherited more toward the English Springer Spaniel.

Some of them can have shorter, tight coats whereas other Springadors have longer coats with the latter being slightly higher maintenance and require more frequent grooming.

Shorter coated dogs would only need a weekly brush and a wipe over with a chamois leather to keep their coats tidy and to maintain a nice sheen.

Longer coated dogs need grooming several times a week to remove any dead hair and to prevent any knots or tangles from forming in their coats, paying special attention to their ears, under their bellies and any feathering found on any part of their bodies, legs and tails.

How to manage shedding?

Both long and short haired Springadors shed throughout the year, especially during the Spring and Autumn to prepare for the changing weather conditions. In shedding season more frequent grooming is usually necessary to keep on top of things and to remove any loose or dead hair from a dog’s coat.

Some dog lovers don’t mind high shedding dogs at all – they know it can just come with the territory!
